280 Watts, Up-Firing Drivers, and a Sub That Rumbles
The TRUE X BAR 50A runs a 2.1.2-channel configuration. That ".2" at the end matters: two dedicated up-firing 2-inch cone drivers bounce Dolby Atmos audio off your ceiling. This isn't virtual height processing like cheaper bars use. The sound physically travels upward, reflects, and comes back down. The difference in a room with flat, standard-height ceilings (8 to 9 feet) is dramatic.
The bar also has two 1-3/4" x 2-5/8" front drivers and two 3-inch built-in subwoofer cones. Then you add the external wireless sub with its 6.3-inch driver powered at 100 watts. Total system output: 280 watts. The front channels get 30W each, height channels 30W each, built-in subs 30W each, and the wireless sub gets the remaining 100W. Yamaha distributes power intelligently here rather than dumping everything into the sub like some competitors do.
Alexa Built In, Wi-Fi, and Expandable Surround
This is where the SR-X50A separates itself from the SR-B40A. Wi-Fi is on board, and Alexa is built right into the bar with a microphone array. You can ask it to play music, control smart home devices, check the weather, set timers, all without picking up your phone. A mute button on top physically disables the mic when you want privacy.
Wi-Fi opens up network streaming: Spotify Connect, Apple AirPlay 2, and other services work directly through the bar. Bluetooth 5.0 is there too, for when Wi-Fi is overkill or you just want quick phone pairing. The real party trick? Yamaha sells TRUE X wireless surround speakers separately. Add two of them behind your couch, and you go from a 2.1.2 system to a genuine surround setup with dedicated rear channels. No speaker wire anywhere.
4K Passthrough, HDMI eARC, and Every Input You Need
The SR-X50A has an HDMI input with 4K passthrough. Run your game console or Blu-ray player through the bar, and it passes the video to your TV while keeping the audio. The HDMI output supports eARC for lossless Atmos from your TV's built-in apps. Add an optical input and you've covered basically every source device made in the last fifteen years.
HDMI CEC handles power sync and volume from your TV remote. Yamaha's Sound Bar Remote app on iOS and Android gives you deeper control: sound modes, EQ adjustments, bass and treble fine-tuning, and firmware updates. The app is straightforward, no account creation required, and it connects over your local network.
Built for Rooms That Deserve Better Audio
At roughly 40 inches wide, the TRUE X BAR 50A sits comfortably under 55-inch and larger TVs. It's heavier than budget bars because of the extra drivers and amplification inside. Wall mounting is supported if your preference is a clean, floating look below your TV.
The wireless subwoofer is the same quality as the SR-B40A's, with a dedicated 100-watt amp and 6.3-inch driver. But the real upgrade here is the up-firing drivers combined with Wi-Fi and Alexa. If you're building a living room setup and want something that grows with you (add wireless surrounds later), the SR-X50A is the foundation piece. Yamaha's TRUE X ecosystem is designed to expand without cables.

Who Is This For?
Home Theater Builder
You want a system that starts as a soundbar and grows into full surround. The SR-X50A's TRUE X ecosystem lets you add wireless rear speakers whenever you're ready, without ripping open walls or running cable. The up-firing Atmos drivers give you ceiling effects from day one.
Smart Home Integrator
Alexa built into the soundbar means one fewer Echo device on your shelf. Control your lights, thermostat, and music with your voice while watching TV. Wi-Fi streaming through Spotify Connect and AirPlay 2 means your phone becomes a remote, not a requirement.
Serious Movie and Music Fan
280 watts with real height channels and a dedicated wireless sub. The SR-X50A handles everything from orchestral soundtracks to heavy action sequences with authority. Yamaha's tuning leans warm and natural, which makes it equally at home playing jazz as it is shaking the walls during a Marvel film.
